To be, or not to be

In 2 months time, I'll be turning 32. Recently, I've found some old classmates through Facebook. To my astonishment, most of them are married with children. To a person who doesn't like the idea of being married, the potrait of a happy family suddenly becomes appealing. I feel that I'm a late bloomer, always behind of everyone of same age and still living in my own world; like a turtle. Children with me will be messy. I like everything perfect and beautiful but for me, kids aren't always pretty. The idea of raising one scares me. For that, I opt to stay single.

Some people may not see things the same way. Yes, I admit that I'm selfish and self-centred. But everyone will agree with me that you have to love yourself before you care for others. My conscious mind has repetitvely reminded me that I'm not ready to settle down and I'll not be a good mother if I've a child now. I can be fully responsible for my actions but to be responsible for others will require massive courage and sacrifice. Life may not be as good as others, marriage and children are one-way ticket. If I make a compulsive decision, there's no turning back.

Modern Cinderella

While I was shoe shopping the other day, I noticed there are lots of women who share same shoe sizes. It kept me wondering how the prince in "Cinderella" managed to find the right princess to fit into the shoe. In modern day, the only possibility that this shoe can fit the "princess" is when she has unusual feet (which is swollen or big), which means she could be an ogre. If the prince found out that his princess is obese and not so perfect, will he still want to marry her and live a happy ever after life? I doubt so.

Humans are so obsess with beauty and perfection. Even an average girl next door has problem finding the right companion. Furthermore, with the perception that women and men are equal, male chauvinism are growing. The act of gentleman has slowly disappeared. How many times that you noticed a man showed a lady her way out in a cramped train during peak hours? I'm pretty sure the answer will be "hardly". A simple gesture like this is so easy to perform yet undetectable. Things may be exceptional if the other party happened to be a young, beautiful lady. She will be treated in an extraordinaire manner. Then again, beauty is not skin deep. One day. when the princess grew older, fatter and uglier (both look and behaviour), will the prince still love her the same way? Pretty much, not.

There are always younger preys out there; both male and female. We used to think that money can't buy love. But in fact, money can buy lovers. Older women with money can buy young, handsome lovers and vice versa. Who needs real love? How do we measure true love? Passionate, undying or till death do us part kind of thing? Reality is this is cruel to some people in the modern world. Loyal to just 1 companion? Not impossible but hard.
